NEW MEXICO - Zombie certainly describe a creature that is hard to eradicate and attack people who are still alive. Recently, researchers in New Mexico has created a cell 'zombies' are expected to be used as a sensor to the fuel cell.
Naming cells zombie here is not referring to the creature depicted in Hollywood movies. Rather, these cells do not yet have the ability to live like a living cell, even has a fairly high resistance, like a zombie.
"It's very challenging for researchers to build structures on the nanometer scale," says lead researcher Dr. Bryan Kaehr is also a materials scientist at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, as quoted from Huffingtonpost, Sunday (24/02/2013).
Cells that successfully created these researchers have an advantage against extreme temperatures. A professor who collaborated with the University of New Mexico said, a process that is done does not make zombie cells change shape, "is pretty stable cell shrinkage resistant even when heated at temperatures 500 degrees Celsius," he said.
"Through this technique, we do not need to build a structure of a natural, do it for us," said Dr. Bryan Kaehr.
"Flexibility of the structure and behavior of the starting material (cell culture) provides an opportunity to develop a strong and economical biocomposite with the structure and function of the programmed," wrote in the study abstract 'Cellular Complexity Captured in Durable Silica Biocomposites'.
