Ann Bradford Davis (May 5, 1926 – June 1, 2014) was an American television actress.

Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Ann B. Davis was born on May 3, 1926, in Schenectady, New York. She won Emmys in 1958 and 1959 for her role as "Schultzy" on The Bob Cummings Show, but is best known for her role as the zany but loving housekeeper on the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch. Davis retired from show business in 1976 to live in an Episcopal community, now located near San Antonio, Texas. She died at the age of 88 on June 1, 2014.

Davis achieved prominence for her role in The Bob Cummings Show (1955–59) for which she twice won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, but she was best known for playing the part of Alice Nelson, the housekeeper in The Brady Bunch series (1969–74).

Davis was born in Schenectady, New York, the daughter of Marguerite (née Stott) and Cassius Miles Davis. She had an identical twin, Harriet, and an older brother Evans.

When Davis was three, she and her family moved to Erie, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Strong Vincent High School, and later from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She originally enrolled as a pre-med major; however, she changed her mind and went into drama after seeing her older brother's performance of Oklahoma! Davis graduated in 1948 with a degree in drama and speech.

In 1976, Davis sold her home in Los Angeles to move to Denver, Colorado, where she joined an Episcopal community led by Bishop William C. Frey. The community later relocated to Ambridge, Pennsylvania. Davis had long been a volunteer for the Episcopal church, working at the General Convention, attending services at churches around the country, and was not cloistered.

An Australian man created an inch-wide hole in his head using an ointment he thought would help treat his skin cancer. 

The 55-year-old entered a Brisbane hospital with a large lesion on his right temple after allegedly using Black salve, an ‘alternative medicine’ ointment.

The ointment, also known as drawing salve, contains sanguinarine – derived from bloodroot – and is often mixed with zinc chloride, working as a corrosive.

The paste is used on a topical area, moles, scars and sometimes cancer, it destroys skin tissue, leaving being a black scar which later falls off.

Black salves were popular in the early 1900s to treat skin lesions, but have been listed as a 'fake cancer treatment' by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2004, and the organisation is actively trying to ban it in the U.S.

In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) condemned the ointments as recently as 2012, although they are not yet banned.

The TGA says it is ‘unaware of any credible, scientific evidence that black salve, red salve or cansema can cure or treat cancer.’

However, the warnings have not stopped the widespread use of Black salve in Australia.

‘I think it’s used a lot more commonly than we realise,’ dermatologist Dr Erin McMeniman said.

‘Patients are often quite secretive about where they get it from, but dermatologists often end up seeing cases where there are major complications.

‘Most commonly the tumour is not adequately treated and then 12 months later it’s still growing beneath the scar the cancema [black salve] has produced.’

The bold and innovative move was hailed by critics and fans. USA Today 's Korina Lopez wrote "It's a fully baked album, no filler remixes and re-released greatest hits. By sidestepping promotional blitz and gimmicks, this album could be her most personal yet."

According to Gerrick D. Kennedy of the Los Angeles Times, Beyonce, her producers and writers began work on the project last summer while they were all together in the Hamptons. The end result, Kennedy said, "is a striking collection of work that shows her torching the veil of her carefully crafted image."

"Songs on the album jump and dive between genres and are woven together with everything from spoken word and trap raps to the coos of her daughter Blue Ivy and vintage Destiny's Child footage," Kennedy wrote. "It's a lot to consume, but a revelatory look at the singer who has tirelessly calculated what she chooses to share (and it's not always much)."

Miles Marshall Lewis, the Arts & Culture editor for Ebony.com, writes that Beyonce has overshadowed some other big-name singers who have recently released new projects.

"Where pop stars are concerned, Beyoncé easily bests the latest from both Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, rivaling Justin Timberlake with a fraction of the media blitz (so far)," Lewis said. "Now that's a superpower."

For her part, Beyonce said in her video to fans that she was inspired by the legendary Michael Jackson.

"I remember watching 'Thriller' on TV with my family. It was an event, we all sat around the TV and now looking back, I am so happy I was born around that time," she said. "I miss that immersive experience."

Directed by Carl Erik Rinsch, “47 Ronin” is a fictional account of the tale of 47 samurai in 18th-century Japan who avenge the murder of their master. The story – commonly referred to as Chusingura in Japan — is extremely popular in that country and has inspired numerous plays, books and film production.

The rollout of the $170 million epic, which began filming in 2011, has been a long time coming. Filming started in Budapest in March 2011; it moved to Shepperton Studios in London and was concluded in Japan.

The U.S. release date was shifted from November of 2012 to February 8, 2013, and then again to Christmas Day, 2013.

Most analysts believe it will struggle to find its footing in the crowded holiday marketplace in the U.S., but given its subject matter and Japanese stars Rinko Kiuchi, Tadanobu Asano and Hiroyuki Sanada, it has potential to score in Asia.

The film opens next in Singapore (Dec. 19), Malaysia (Dec. 19) and Indonesia (Dec. 20), with 15 more territories opening the last weekend of 2013, including the U.K. and Spain.

Gaga's album sales dropped by 82 percent this week. Only three No. 1 albums in the Nielsen SoundScan era have experienced such steep drops in their second week. (Madonna's MDNA dropped by 87 percent in its second week; Gaga's Born This Way dropped by 84 percent; Mac Miller's Blue Slide Park dropped by 83 percent.)
